They are all written from the same book, pick one a suffer through learning it. They don't include duct leakage and do averages on windows not actual gain. The amount of time it takes to do a calc after you learn to use the software is comparable. Starting with an old version does not make sense to me. Who's product should you get? Call tech support and see who answers, I'd put their product on the top of the list as to which one to buy. Although, once you learn to use it you wont need them anymore. The newest verson 8 seems to be more stable. The preveious version 7 locked up quite a bit and the catalog updates never worked. That was my experience anyway. May have been different for others. I havent used any other so cant comment on them. I teach the Right-J Professional Edition with the Right-Draw and the Right-D... Really easy to use once you learn to navigate the program... The Worksheet for Manual J is built by doing the foregoing... BTW, I'm still not there on the Right-D ducts portion of the program... I hope that you find this helpful! Waiting for the manual s to arrive and will hopefully figure it out but as I understand the program defaults to. I think a lot of the guys running around using the software are doing just that. I have used Wrightsoft for more than a decade. Used to be Right J. It is sold in modules. You may get a price break through a manufacturer. Buy only what you need. It will grow on you. For Free: You can download a fully functioning demonstration copy of everthing they offer. It is crippled in only one way. You cannot change the design city until you buy. Most basic: Start with right J v7 and Right Draw module. Good entry level cost, fully acceptable results, lower learning curve. Learn the ACCA Manual 7 book. Good in program help. Go with that for a year until you have it mastered. Manual J v7 does not undersize. Just make sure you enter all of the data and double check. V7 has a nice window report that is useful for double checking. The Draw report is easy to create and review. It looks like the floor plan of the project. When you upgrade or start with v8 you have the choice on any project or on all projects to switch from V8 to V7. V8 is more complex to use well if this is new to you.
